STARBORN
Starborn is short animated film I worked on as both a prop designer and layout artist. It's a story set in a city that personifies our very own solar system. The main character is a young star girl that was born with uncontrollable powers who needs the help of Earth and the other planetary goddesses to learn to control them.

NUCLEAR COVEN
Nuclear Coven is a personal project I've developed to explore working in an animation style for younger audiences. It's inspired by my love for comic strips like Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Waterson, with a modern story.

Fun Fact: the plot is inspired by a short story I wrote back in high school for a creative writing assignment.

For my character designs, I like to start with sketches on sticky notes using ball point pen! The combination of cheap materials and the inability to erase keeps me from being too perfectionist. I also let the face of my characters guide what kind of body type I design for them.

Something I really enjoyed developing for this project were these effects sheets. I had a lot of fun playing with noise and gritty textures to create the glow and smokes effects. I think it lends itself well for the comic book style I use for the props and environments.

For the backgrounds and environment exploration, I wanted to play around with warped and forced perspectives. I emphasized this by working with a a flat illustrative style, building everything from shapes and using lineart sparingly to separate or define some areas.
I still wanted the backgrounds to have depth so I used textures and line weight to achieve that.
